It is a remarkable thought that Peter Tritt and I together have seen three centuries, that I have known and shaken hands with someone who lived in the days of Empress Maria Theresia and Frederick the Great, and of the Lord Bishop Franz Joseph von Ehrthal.
The latter is remembered in our family for various reasons. The years of this Lord Bishop were the ‘Good old Days’ for the citizens of Bamberg. The institutions created by this great Lord still benefit the present generation. Thus, the hospital for servants founded well in advance of today’s sickness insurances. Other benefits are still remembered though abolished since the takeover of the Bamberg district by the state of Bavaria, like the University and the vast Bishops Court which created ample employment and in addition, a great deal to admire and to learn. ‘Panem et Circenses’!
