Adalbert Friedrich Marcus (1753-1816) the physician-in-ordinary of the sovereign prince-bishop of Ethal was a main representative of natural-philosophical medicine. In his works he was a physician of the age of enlightenment and is credited with the building in 1789 of what was a 120 bed hospital and is now the luxury Hotel Residenzschloss.
